Terms of sale
We sell ebooks. These terms cover everything bought here. Placing an order means you accept them.
What you are buying
You are buying a licence to read one ebook file. You are not buying the copyright in it — the author and the publisher keep every right they held before you bought it.
One book is one file, in one format. The book's page states the format, PDF or EPUB, and — once the file is in stock — its size, before you buy. The edition named on the page is the edition you get.
Nothing is shipped. There is no printed copy, no physical delivery, and no access code or online-platform licence — the book file only, as the page says.
What the licence lets you do
- Download the file as often as you like, on as many of your own devices as you like.
- Read it, keep it, and back it up for your own use.
- Search, highlight, annotate and print it with whatever reader you use. The files carry no copy protection.
What the licence does not let you do
- Sell, lend, give away or otherwise pass the file to anyone else.
- Put it on a file host, a course site, a shared drive, a mailing list or a torrent.
- Remove or alter a copyright notice in the file.
- Buy one licence on behalf of a group so that several people read one copy.
The licence belongs to the account that bought it. If it is broken, we can end access to the books it covers.
You need an account
Sign in before you buy. There is no guest checkout, because every purchase is attached to an account — that is what keeps your books reachable afterwards.
You sign in with an email address and a password; there is no sign-in through another service. The email address on your account is how we identify you and where your receipts, download links and codes are sent. You can change your name in Settings. You cannot change your email address yourself; write to us from your account and we do it by hand.
Prices
Prices are in US dollars. The price on the book page is the whole price: nothing is added at checkout.
The total is worked out on our side every time it is shown, and again when the order is placed, from the price the shop holds for each book at that moment. Where a list discount is offered for buying several books in one order, it is shown on the book page and in the order before you pay, and it is applied to the order when you pay.
Prices can change at any time. A change never reaches an order already paid.
How an order is made, and when it completes
Signed in, you place the order and choose how to pay. Placing the order is an offer to buy; the sale is made when the payment lands, and not before.
- Cash App or any Lightning wallet. We raise a Bitcoin Lightning invoice for the exact total and show it to you. You pay it from your own wallet or app, and the order completes when the network reports the invoice settled. An invoice is short-lived and the checkout page counts it down; if it runs out before you pay, nothing has been charged, the order has not completed, and buying again is a new order.
- Your account balance. If your balance covers the total, the order is paid from it at once and the sale is made then.
- USDC on the Solana network. You send USDC to the deposit address shown to you; what arrives is credited to your account balance, and you then pay the order from the balance. Anything you send beyond the total stays in your balance. Only USDC on Solana is credited to that address — send nothing else to it.
One order is one payment. If a payment for an order cannot be matched to it, write to us with the order code and we will look into it.
Delivery
Delivery is by download. A book whose file is in stock is ready the moment the payment lands: on the order page, in your account under Orders, and through the link in the receipt email.
A book marked pre-order is sourced after payment. It appears in your account within 12 hours, with an email to say so. If we cannot get the book, or the file does not pass our quality check, we do not deliver it: the full price of that book goes back to your account balance within 24–48 hours, and you get an email when it lands. The rest of the order is unaffected.
Your account is where a book is downloaded for good. The link in an email is a delivery link: it works for a limited number of downloads over the first week, and after that your account is the place to download from.
How long access lasts
Downloads do not expire, and there is no download limit. We count how many times you have downloaded a book, but the count is a record of use, never a cap.
Access ends one way only: we end it. We do that where a licence has been broken, or where a book has been refunded and goes back with the refund.
Your account balance
Your account can hold a balance in US dollars. Refunds are credited to it, funds you add in USDC land in it, and it pays for orders at checkout.
You can withdraw your balance to your own wallet. Withdrawals are paid only to a destination you have verified through the email address on your account. The fee, the minimum and any daily limit are shown before you confirm, and a withdrawal can be cancelled while it is still queued. Most withdrawals are sent within minutes; when the system is busy, one can take up to 48 hours, and we email you as soon as it is sent.
We may pause adding funds or withdrawals for a time, for example while something is being fixed; the account page says so while it lasts. A balance already in your account is not affected by a pause, and nothing in flight is lost.
Refunds
A refund is the full price of the book it covers, credited to your account balance, from where you can spend it or withdraw it. When you can ask for one, and how, is on the refund policy page, which forms part of these terms.
Book requests
Asking us to find a book is not an order. Nothing is charged for a request, the price shown with it is an estimate, and we may decline a request. If we can get the book, it is listed on the shop like any other title and you decide then whether to buy it.
The details and cover photo you give with a request are shown publicly on the Requested books list; who asked is not.
Reviews
Only customers who bought a book can review it. We read reviews before they appear and may decline, edit or remove one. By posting a review you allow us to show it, with your first name and last initial and any photos you attached, on the book's page.
Availability
We can add, reprice, hide or withdraw any title at any time, without notice.
Withdrawing a title does not touch a copy already bought. Books you have paid for stay in your account and stay downloadable.
Acceptable use
Do not try to reach orders, downloads, balances or accounts that are not yours. Do not scrape or probe the site, and do not use it to distribute anything you have no right to distribute. Do not pay for an order with money or a wallet that is not yours to use.
What we are responsible for, and what we are not
We will supply the book you paid for, in the format its page stated, and keep it downloadable from your account.
We do not promise the site runs without interruption, and we do not promise a file opens in every reader on every device.
Payments move over networks we do not run. Once a payment has left your wallet, or a withdrawal has been sent to the destination you verified, we cannot reverse it.
Except where the law does not allow it to be limited, our total liability for anything arising from an order is limited to the amount you paid for that order. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.
Nothing here removes a right you have under consumer law that cannot be given up by agreement.
Changes to these terms
We can change these terms. The version on this page is the one in force. A change applies to orders placed after it appears; it does not rewrite an order already paid.
Questions
Questions about these terms go to our support address, in the footer of every page, or to us directly from your account.
